Human Rights Violation: Gender
[ send me this paper ]
10 pages in length. The quest for human rights has perpetuated since man first tapped into his higher level of intelligence and realized he, as a species, has privileges that are specific to and embraced by people. This single aspect, in and of itself, has not posed any controversy throughout the ages, however, the aspect of human rights that continues to wage conflict even today in the twenty-first century is why some factions of the global society are deemed more worthy of said rights than other allegedly inferior groups with lesser social, political, economic, cultural or religious status. Philosophers have long theorized over the fundamental value of human rights as belonging to each and every individual no matter the standing, yet their insightful wisdom continues to fall upon deaf ears as virtually every global community supports a hierarchical order of rights and who is the recipient of them. Bibliography lists 10 sources.

India’s Bride Burning Situation
[ send me this paper ]
An 8 page overview of the history of patriarchal domination in India which sometimes results in such horrific practices as wife burning, the practice by which the family of a newly married man, or a man who is to be married in the near future, demands a large dowry from the wife’s family and if not obliged murders the wife. Notes that although this practice occurs primarily among the middle class, caste, age, marital status, and economics all enter into the equation. Emphasizes that existing laws and enforcement are non-effective and that the power to change this situation lies with the women themselves. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

International Human Rights Law Vs Sharia Law: Western Ideology And Islamic Cultural Interpretation Of Gender
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. The obvious conflict that exists between International Human Rights law and Sharia law as they both relate to women indicates a cultural basis upon which gender is approached. Clearly, any attempt to apply the International Human Rights law, which is based upon Western ideology, to countries that practice Sharia law, which is based upon the teachings of Islam, is a most difficult application to make. Women and culture have long represented various relationships in different cultures; as much as the International Human Rights law has attempted to bridge the obvious gap that exists between gender and humane treatment, it has failed to achieve its objective throughout myriad patriarchal nations. Bibliography lists 4 sources.
